Anthropic’s chief financial officer Krishna Rao says artificial intelligence now writes 90% of the company’s code, but still the AI giant is hiring more people than ever. According to a report by Business Insider, speaking on Patrick O’Shaughnessy’s Invest Like the Best podcast, Rao explained how AI is transforming white-collar work inside one of Silicon Valley’s leading AI companies. Rao said Anthropic’s AI systems, including the Claude Code can now handle most of the execution layer of knowledge work ranging from software engineering to financial reporting while the humans now focus on oversight, judgement and strategy. “We’ve hired a lot more people because of that,” he explained, calling Claude a productivity “accelerant” that enables teams to accomplish more as they learn to integrate AI into their workflows.
Inside Anthropic’s AI-driven workplace
As per Rao, more than 90% of Anthropic’s code is written by Claude Code, and the company’s finance team also uses AI to produce financial statements that “90 to 95% ready” before human review. Reports that once took hours now take about 30 minutes. “It’s accentuating and accelerating the talent we already have,” Rao said, emphasising that Anthropic values “talent density”, a smaller, highly skilled workforce empowered by AI tools.
The changing nature of white-collar work
The comments made by Rao offer a glimpse into how AI is reshaping while-collar jobs. Rather than replacing employees outright, AI is automating routine tasks and is also turning workers into supervisors of AI systems. “Everyone kind of becomes a manager,” Rao said, describing teams that deploy “fleets of agents” working across projects simultaneously. The approach of Anthropic is different from other companies that have used automation to justify layoffs. Rao argued that productivity gains from AI could actually lead to more hiring, since “there’s no shortage of work to do.” His remarks come amid a growing debate among economists and executives over whether AI will ultimately reduce or expand employment.
Anthropic is hiring for a role that will be ‘the face of Anthropic’
Recently, Anthropic announced that it is looking for a new kind of leader, an “Applied AI Claude Evangelist.” The role, described as ‘the face of Anthropic’, will be central to promoting its chatbot Claude among venture capitalist, startup founders, and accelerators. The Claude Evangelist will work directly with the startups to help them adopt Anthropic’s products. Responsibilities include leading developer onboarding, creating demos and tutorials, and sharing feedback with internal teams. A significant part of the job involves live events, with one task being to “design and run hands-on technical sessions that move developers from curiosity to active building within a single event.”
