'No Entry' actor Paresh Ganatra opens up on struggle with being typecast in comedy roles and how his new show breaks that loop: 'Someone has to put faith in you' | Exclusive

Paresh Ganatra known for movies like ‘Aankhen’, ‘Welcome’, ‘No Entry’ among others apart from television shows like ‘Baa Bahu Baby’ has been in the industry for 28 years. But the actor admits to being typecast in comedy roles. His latest series ‘Made in India: A Titan Story’ starring Naseeruddin Shah, Jim Sarbh sees him in a different light. In a recent interview with ETimes, as Ganatra opened up on his journey, he spoke about the show and reflected on his career. He revealed that it’s very easy for people to put actors in a box, but one needs people who are willing to take a risk and have faith in an actor to pull off a part. The actor said, “For me the most exciting part was that it was a real story and that my character is not doing comedy. An actor always feels that working in the comfort zone is not good. We believe that we are versatile and we want to show that to people. For me the biggest reason to do this show is that my character is not doing comedy.” The show is based on how JRD Tata started Titan and sees Naseeruddin Shah play his role. “There are so many great actors in the show like Jim Sarbh and Naseer bhai and every actor always wants to learn. Though, unfortunately, I didn’t have any scenes with Naseer bhai.”Talking about the prep for his part, Ganatra says, “I usually believe in spontaneity. Also largely comedy happens with improvisations and that has been the take in most of my films. Though this time around, I paid attention to the seriousness of the character and not going out of it. I try not to make it technical. I feel eventually, it’s always a collaborative effort which brings out a good scene.” The actor also says that one needs more people in the industry to believe in actors to do different roles. “Someone has to put the faith in an actor. Someone should say, ‘let’s take a risk on Paresh and let’s see if he can pull it off’.” ‘Made in India: A Titan Story’ has begun streaming from June 3 onwards.
