BENGALURU: The Singapore high court has declined Byju Raveendran’s request to suspend a six-month civil contempt sentence, lifting the temporary protection earlier granted to the Byju’s founder while his appeal against the ruling remains pending.Raveendran’s legal team clarified that the July 9 hearing dealt only with his application to stay the May 25 contempt order and not the substantive appeal against the contempt finding itself. The appeal is yet to be heard by the Singapore Court of Appeal, the lawyers said in a statement on Tuesday. The high court’s decision means the contempt sentence remains in force unless the appellate court grants interim relief. However, Raveendran’s lawyers said the order has no immediate practical effect.
